Community organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to work on a voluntary basis without remuneration on projects that seek to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect and/or exploitation.

Child Care Volunteer Opportunities

Child care centers and other similar organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills who are willing to serve as aides to professional child care staff on a voluntary basis without remuneration. Also included are shelters and other community organizations that need volunteers to provide supervision for young children while their mothers or other caregivers are attending workshops, receiving counseling or participating in other agency programs.

Companionship Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to provide friendship and shared activities and/or appropriate role models for individuals who suffer from lack of company, loneliness or social isolation; who need practice conversing in English; or who lack the companionship and guidance of an adult figure or model.

Errand Running/Shopping Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with a valid driver license and current insurance who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to make short trips to purchase groceries, pick up prescriptions, withdraw or deposit money in the bank, drop off or retrieve laundry and do other small tasks for people who have disabilities and frail elderly individuals who cannot leave their homes or are otherwise unable to perform these tasks for themselves. Also included are volunteer opportunities in markets or similar establishments for people who are willing to deliver groceries to homes of frail elderly individuals or people with disabilities who are unable to go out and shop on their own behalf, and volunteer positions in organizations who have a need for couriers or people to run other types of errands.

Foster Parenting Support Volunteer Opportunities

Organizations that are actively seeking individuals who are currently foster parents or who, as children, were in foster care, who are willing, on a volunteer basis without remuneration, to provide emotional support, encouragement and practical advice for individuals and families in a similar position.

Homeless Shelter Volunteer Opportunities

Included are organizations with volunteer positions for individuals who can manage the financial affairs of older adults with conditions like Alzheimer's disease or individuals with disabilities who are unable to handle the responsibility themselves. Tasks include receiving and depositing benefits checks from Social Security or other federal programs, and/or writing checks and paying bills for people served by the program.
